Flower Child

With the cold weather well and truly gone, it is time to say goodbye to those fluffy winter knits and pack them away for another year. The next season is amongst us and I couldn’t be more excited. Despite all the pollen in the air kickstarting my beloved allergies, it’s ok because the sun is out, the days are longer and the flowers have blossomed. That’s right, spring has sprung!

In the fashion world, spring allows your most feminine side to come out and play as the season is all about frills, bright colours, delicate shapes, and intricate details.

Side Note: This spring the colour pink solidified its supreme power on the catwalks!

As I am a lover of all things pretty and frilly, naturally I was jumping for joy when one of my favourite labels Spell & The Gypsy Collective released their Flower Child collection. With childhood photographs and scrapbooks inspiring the designs, this collection exhibits the young spirit in all of us through the use of tiny florals and sweet hues. To me, the whole collection screams spring and resembles a lot of what mini me used to wear (which is probably why I like it so much). It was definitely love at first sight and despite the iconic Miranda Priestly’s voice in the head saying, "Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking,” this season they really are.

Florals are fun, playful and are all about embracing the joy and romance of spring. In saying that, my favourite look from the campaign was this flirty cami paired with the corresponding frilled shorts. This set is undoubtably sweeter than sugar with a beautiful floral print in musky tones where the blooms are subdued and not too overwhelming. Featuring tassels, lace detailing and a flared bottom, this off the shoulder top is the perfect spring attire to bring out your inner girly girl. When coupled up with the dainty ruffled matching shorts, this twin set is exceptionally flattering and is sure to be a spring showstopper.

While florals may be predictable in spring fashion, they never go out of style so don't be afraid to follow the blossoming trend and add a little spring in your step (I know I will be). Put your femininity on display with fashions ongoing love affair for florals, I can assure you its blooming worth it!

Fashion Flare

It is a known fact that trends within the fashion industry always make a return, either in their original form or modified with a few tweaks here and there and become bigger and better than ever. With enormous amounts of pressure on designers to create trends that are both flattering and accessible, they will look to past decades for inspiration to see what worked and what didn’t, hence how trends are always resurfacing. As fashion is not an exact science, it is hard to predict when these trends will come back into fashion, however it is guaranteed that if the trend was a hit, it will be back.

Although many trends have come back into the market this winter, one in particular that is reclaiming its title and has made its way back into the hearts of fashionistas everywhere is that of the bell sleeve.

Whether they are embroidered, oversized, slightly flared or simply huge, the statement sleeves have become the focus of many outfits this season. Being flirty and fun, this is a trend that simply adds that extra pizzazz without going too overboard. Its head-turning, yet wearable. Adds a little drama, yet still subtle.

While some may think its odd to make a statement in such an unusual part of the outfit, I can assure you that bell sleeves are sure to improve your everyday life. Whether thats through hailing down a taxi, waving your arms around dancing, or signing autographs to many of your fans, either way, bell sleeves are undoubtedly the first and foremost way to look fashion forward this winter.

While I am guilty of possessing more than a few bell sleeved items, this cool and colourful striped jumper would have to be one of my favourites. Being lightweight, a relaxed fit, captivating in colour and of course featuring dramatic bell sleeves in the form of a triple tier, this ruffle knit works perfectly with jeans or a skirt for for an everyday look that is anything but dull.

It’s no secret that we all take part in fashion trends one way or another, so why not jump on board the bell sleeve wagon this winter and inject a little drama into your outfit.

The Statement Bomber

In case you hadn’t noticed, the beloved bomber jacket is back this season and it is bigger than ever. Say goodbye to 2016’s puffer jacket and hello to 2017’s winter must-have, the statement bomber.

In the midst of the winter season, jackets and coats are a nonnegotiable item when it comes to staying warm and layering up, and this season it is all about the bomber. Originating from military pilot style, the bomber jacket, (or MA-1 technically speaking) has slowly been embraced by the fashion industry starting in subcultures like punk and rebels in the late 60’s and 80’s ,then moving to the hollywood screen in the 80’s and 90’s, and finally meeting the runway and making its debut in high fashion in the 2000’s.

With the revival of the 80’s staple this winter, not only are simple neutral coloured bombers in, (and always will be), they have taken side-stage to bombers full of colour, embroidery, silks and detail. With the style of the bomber jacket being a statement of its own as evident throughout runway collections, style imagery, and the fact that they are a number one sellout in fashion retail, there is something extra special about the trend of statement bombers. With the contrast of pretty floral embroidery on the sporty silhouette, or lace and quilted, bold coloured jackets with intricate detailing, what is there not to love?

Not only is the statement bomber super fun and playful, but it is an easy way to spice up your outfit in one simple step. This piece is easy to wear, versatile and is perfect for on-the-go moments, (not to mention those sport luxe and off duty vibes). Believe me when I say that the statement bomber will single handedly take over your winter wardrobe, being a game changer that can be paired back with any outfit from jeans and a tee-shirt to a party dress.

So go big or go home this winter with the season favourite, bomber jacket and make a statement.

Lots of Love,
